Dr. Judith Hallock


Judith Lee Hallock, Ph.D. is a native of Long Island, NY. She has been a member of the Civil War Round Table of New York since 1977, serving as vice-president twice, and as its first woman president from 1988-1990. She is active on the Board of Directors and on several committees, including the Young Readers' Award Committee and the Essay Contest for high school students. In 1993 her Round Table honored her with its Distinguished Service Award.

In 1989 Judith received a Doctorate at Stony Brook University. Her dissertation on Braxton Bragg was published in 1991. It completed the work begun on Bragg by Dr. Grady McWhiney in 1969. Since then she has published General James Longstreet in the West and edited and published The Civil War Letters of Joshua K. Callaway.

Dr. Hallock taught elementary school for thirty-three years before retiring in 1995. Since then she has been working on a series of books on Civil War battles for young adults and adult readers, for which she is seeking a publisher. In addition, she plays with her two grandlings, gardens, and enjoys Afternoon Tea with her sisters and friends.
